Opal Palace – A Dazzling World of Middle Eastern Cuisine

Opal Palace isn’t just another restaurant – the moment you step through its doors in Oakville, you feel as though you’ve been transported to a different world. The patio is a modern, dreamy oasis, surreal in the best way, with fairy lights twinkling above lush seating and a design that sets a tranquil tone. Inside, shimmering chandeliers cast a warm golden glow over richly appointed interiors, and every corner boasts an elegant detail. It turns out the owner designed the space himself, and his passion for interior design is evident in each plush chair and ornate fixture. Meeting him that evening made the experience feel all the more personal.

From the beginning, the hospitality at Opal Palace stood out as exceptional. Our host for the evening made sure we were comfortable and cared for at every moment, moving with that perfect balance of warmth and professionalism. We were even told that the chefs and staff were excited to have us, preparing special off-menu dishes just for our table in anticipation. That kind of personalized touch is rare, and it immediately made us feel like honoured guests rather than just customers.

Our culinary journey began with a trio of refreshing drinks. First came a tall glass of limonana, a Lebanese-style lemonade brimming with fresh lemon and mint – tangy, icy, and revitalizing. Next arrived a pure mango juice that had been partially frozen into a silky slush, offering intense mango flavour with an almost creamy texture. Finally, a freshly pressed strawberry juice followed – bright, sweet, and refreshing. These drinks were delicious and set the stage, signalling that attention to detail at Opal Palace extends to every element of the meal.

Then the table began to fill with appetizers, each one more inviting than the last. We started with a classic fattoush salad – a medley of crisp greens tossed with tangy sumac and crunchy pita chips – a refreshing opener for the palate. Beside it was golden-brown kibbeh (crispy bulgur shells filled with spiced meat), savory and satisfying. Warm, fluffy house-baked bread arrived next, accompanied by a trio of dips: silky hummus, smoky-sweet muhammara, and creamy matabal, each bringing a distinctive flavour. Every bite of these starters managed to be comforting yet offer something new.

For our mains, a parade of specialties from across the Middle East showcased the chefs’ diverse backgrounds. We savoured delicate grape leaves stuffed with spiced rice and served with tender lamb, a generous Jordanian mansaf featuring slow-cooked lamb over tangy yogurt-sauced rice, and an artfully arranged mixed grill of chicken shish taouk, juicy minced kebab, and marinated beef tenderloin – each grilled to perfection with an ideal kiss of smoke. Every plate arrived like a work of art, yet the presentation never outshone the comforting authenticity of the flavours.

Just when we thought we couldn’t be more impressed, dessert was another spectacle. First came a fusion of tres leches cake and tiramisu, blending the milky softness of the former with the espresso-kissed richness of the latter. Light, creamy, and unexpected, it vanished in a flash. Next was a warm date cake with a scoop of ice cream – moist and rich with caramel-like sweetness, like a Middle Eastern twist on sticky toffee pudding, indulgent with the cool ice cream alongside. Finally came the showstopper: a chocolate cake dusted in edible gold, composed of thin layers of delicate sponge and smooth chocolate mousse with a hint of orange zest. Decadent yet light, it was an indulgence we kept dreaming about days later.

For those looking to unwind after dinner, Opal Palace even offers in-house crafted hookah on the patio – a relaxing way to linger amid the lounge-like ambiance and let the evening stretch a little longer.

What truly makes Opal Palace special is the sense that every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create a memorable journey for the guest. The stunning space, the exquisite food, and the people behind it all come together seamlessly. There’s a real sense of occasion here, yet it remains comfortable and unpretentious. Whether you’re celebrating a special event or simply treating yourself to an elevated night out, Opal Palace delivers warmth, flavour, and elegance all at once.
