Smashed, Sauced, and Satisfying
This month, TorontoPages continued its city-wide search for crave-worthy eats and found ourselves at The Bullger a buzzing spot for bold, Halal-certified burgers in Toronto’s west end. Located on Keele Street, this fast-casual burger joint has been turning heads (and filling bellies) with its layered creations, crispy fried add-ons, and unapologetically indulgent milkshakes. We showed up hungry and left with a whole new appreciation for just how good a burger experience can be when flavour, freshness, and care come together under one bun.

The visit kicked off with a cold, creamy Oreo milkshake that hit all the right notes. Thick, velvety, and generously packed with real Oreo cookie bits, it was a rich start to the meal and easily double as dessert. Served with crushed cookie on the rim and enough weight to be shared (though we didn’t), it made us slow down just long enough to prepare for the burger trio ahead.

The first burger we tried was the Matador – a stacked masterpiece made with a juicy, fresh beef patty, mozzarella cheese, a crispy fried chicken fillet, lettuce, tomato, and their house-made garlic sauce. The combination of textures and flavours made this one of the most memorable bites of the day. The beef patty was seared beautifully and cooked through, but still moist, with the mozzarella acting as a gooey binder. The fried chicken gave the burger a crunch and richness that made every bite feel indulgent, while the garlic sauce brought a savoury zing that lingered pleasantly.

Next came the Montera, a burger clearly designed with big appetites in mind. Two well-seasoned smashed beef patties were layered with cheddar cheese crusted around the edges, crispy beef bacon bits, lettuce, tomato, and Bullger’s signature creamy sauce. What made this burger stand out wasn’t just the size, but the way the ingredients were thoughtfully layered so you get a hit of everything in each bite – the smokiness of the beef bacon, the rich chew of the cheese, the cool crunch of fresh vegetables, and that classic meaty umami at the core.

Last but not least was the Bull Fight – one of the more inventive builds on the menu and definitely a standout. This burger features a 6 oz beef patty topped with a crusted Portobello mushroom stuffed with melted cheese, plus sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato, and garlic aioli. The mushroom cap brought richness, a slight crisp from the crust, and an oozy cheese centre that added extra decadence to the already well-cooked patty beneath. Combined with the sweet tang of sautéed onions and the creamy garlic aioli, this was a flavour-packed creation that offered something different while still delivering that familiar burger satisfaction. It’s a must-try for anyone who appreciates bold toppings that actually complement the beef rather than compete with it.

On the side, we had Bullger’s signature seasoned fries – golden, crispy, and perfectly salted. They held their crunch well and paired nicely with the house sauces we had on hand. No part of the meal felt like an afterthought. While the food came out in takeout-style packaging (standard for this casual setup), the attention to freshness and flavour clearly elevated the experience.
The Keele location itself is bright, clean, and efficient, more functional than decorative, with simple seating and a steady stream of customers coming through. It’s designed for quick service, and it shows: our order was prepared promptly, even with several items. While there’s no elaborate décor or flashy installations, the focus here is obviously the food, and that’s something we appreciated. It’s not about gimmicks just really good burgers, made right.

One of the standout aspects of The Bullger is that everything on the menu is 100% Halal. For many burger fans in the city, that’s a rare find, especially at this level of quality. Knowing that every bite was thoughtfully sourced adds another level of trust and satisfaction to the experience. Whether you’re strict Halal or just after a flavour-packed burger, this spot delivers across the board.
The staff were friendly, patient, and happy to walk us through their menu. Though drinks weren’t refilled, service was quick and courteous perfect for the casual vibe of the restaurant. The Bullger seems to pride itself on consistency and customer care, and it shows from the first interaction at the counter to the final bite.

At the end of the visit, we were full, satisfied, and already thinking about what to try next time. There’s something exciting about finding a spot where you know you’ll get a solid, flavourful burger every single time and for those in the city’s west end, that spot is The Bullger at 2545 Keele Street.
