Kreesha Turner Returns To The Spotlight After Decade Hiatus

Set to Perform at NXNE on June 12

Platinum-selling, five-time JUNO Award nominee Kreesha Turner returns with “You’re Ego,” her first new single in nearly a decade, on May 29, 2026. A haunting neo-jazz reckoning, the track signals the boldest chapter of her career yet. Known for her chart-topping hit “Don’t Call Me Baby,” which dominated Canadian radio and topped the U.S. Billboard Dance Chart, Turner now re-emerges with a sound rooted in her first musical language: jazz.

She is also set to return to the stage this summer with festival appearances across Canada, including NXNE on June 12th at Cassette. Tickets are available here. More dates will be announced soon.

After a long hiatus from releasing new music, an unexpected moment reignited Turner’s creative fire. While in Bali, she began performing her song “Black Magic” from her debut album Passion. Watching audiences respond so deeply reminded her of something she had always known: music is her purpose. That realization set the stage for a creative rebirth.

“You’re Ego” opens the door to Turner’s most personal project yet. Inspired by a real-life relationship, the song explores the unsettling shift that occurs when ego takes control, and love turns into something unrecognizable. Turner wrote the track reflecting on how there’s a haunting sadness in watching someone you love slowly become a stranger, and an even deeper ache in realizing that compassion alone cannot bring them back.

Produced by JUNO nominee Ari Mastoras (Got7, Nuela Charles) and mastered by Canadian engineer Alex Sergerie, the single is rooted in traditional jazz instrumentation, featuring live performances from top Edmonton jazz players layered beneath Turner’s neo-soul vocals and contemporary lyrics. Blending eerie jazz textures with driving rhythms, the track mirrors the emotional tension at its core.

“Have you ever met someone for the first time twice? That’s what this song is about, the moment you realize the person in front of you isn’t who you thought they were. It’s not just a breakup song, it’s a spiritual reckoning,” said Kreesha Turner. “Returning to music after all this time has been about reconnecting with myself and my foundation as an artist. Jazz was my first love, and returning to it has felt both grounding and freeing. I’m so excited to share this new collection of music.”

A five-time JUNO Award nominee, Kreesha Turner has earned two Billboard Dance #1s, the Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Solo Artist, and placements on hit TV shows including Gossip Girl, Empire, Desperate Housewives, So You Think You Can Dance, and Canada’s Drag Race. She has headlined Toronto’s New Year’s Eve celebration for more than 100,000 attendees and performed for international dignitaries at the World Expo.

“You’re Ego” marks the first release from Turner’s upcoming album, a neo-jazz project built on live jazz instrumentation and soul-inflected vocals, blending Turner’s jazz training with contemporary production and deeply personal storytelling. The release reconnects Turner with longtime fans while introducing a new dimension of her artistry.
