Evan Clayton is the creative force behind his namesake label, EVAN CLAYTON, and he’s making waves in the fashion world! Based in the vibrant city of Vancouver, BC, Evan recently showcased his collection, PHYLLIS, at Fashion Art Toronto this past fall. His designs draw inspiration from the wisdom of trans elders, his beloved grandmother, and the people he holds dear. On a lighter note, he also cites Tim Burton’s Batman: The Animated Series, along with fashion legends like Thierry Mugler and Claude Montana, as key influences for the PHYLLIS collection.

Since Evan launched his first collection back in 2011, he’s skyrocketed to international fame in the fashion scene! His stunning collections have been showcased in places like Canada, Austria, and Japan, and he’s made quite the splash in top publications such as Vogue UK, Vogue China, Paper Magazine, and Nylon. Plus, let’s not forget that he’s dressed some fabulous stars, including Doja Cat, Allie X, Brooke Candy, Kali Uchis, Cupcakke, and even talented drag artists from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The PHYLLIS collection truly captures the essence of Gothic Expressionism while exuding that charming “Burtonesque” vibe. It masterfully combines dark, moody elements with a touch of fantastical whimsy and dramatic flair and glamourous color. Attending the runway show felt like stepping right into an animated scene from a dystopian, monochromatic Gotham City as the backdrop to his creations. It was a spectacular display of a collection that radiates fun and confidence, leaving everyone buzzing with excitement!

Evan Clayton was showing at Fashion Art Toronto through their FASHN DISRPTR Program.
