Prolific, alternative R&B artist and producer Jesse Maxwell is set to release his sophomore full-length album LP2 on October 14 via The Orchard and all streaming platforms.
Produced by Jesse in collaboration with Andres Neupert on select tracks, LP2 showcases Jesse’s effortlessly soulful vocals and range as a producer and musician, and also his deft ability to distill elements of classic and cutting-edge R&B and soul into a fresh sound that’s uniquely his own.
Intriguing visual elements are always at the forefront of Jesse’s creative process, a signature that was showcased on the album’s single releases. The music video for lead single “nosedive” is an artistic reflection of Jesse’s past struggles with addiction, depicting the dichotomy of a high and comedown. Viewers are pulled into Jesse’s world as he journeys through a twisted night under the influence. On the live performance video for his single “lovecrime”, a gorgeous view of Toronto’s skyline is featured to accompany the song’s vulnerability and stripped-down production.
“I am so excited to present this album to the world. It feels like another step in the evolution of my sound,” says Jesse Maxwell. “I played with space and ambience more than I ever have during the writing and production process. I hope listeners will feel the depth of these ever-expanding soundscapes.”
Toronto-based Jesse gravitated toward music early on, studying classical piano and theory as a child, playing coffee houses in his teens, and ultimately moving to New York and joining a local blues band who put out the word that they needed a singer. Over the next 18 months, he continued to hone his chops as a songwriter and producer.
Energized by his experiences writing and performing in New York, after returning to Toronto he put a band together and released his debut album, Radio Silence (Trans Phatt Records) in May 2020. The record garnered substantial play on SiriusXM and soon racked up in excess 300k streams on Spotify. Maxwell fed his growing audience’s hunger for his fresh take on Pop/Alternative R&B with Hellion, a 6-song EP released in early 2021, and went straight to work on LP2 as a means of pushing himself to evolve as an artist, as usual, at high speed.
In just three years Jesse Maxwell has indeed gone from 0 to 100: racking up over one million streams to date; becoming a regular fixture on indie radio across Canada; making inroads internationally (via a #1 on the People’s Soul Choice Charts on the UK’s Delite Radio); and gaining a well-deserved reputation as a prolific, deeply lyrical storyteller and a distinctively compelling voice in modern soul.
